LSUA's Howell, OLLU's Hernandez named RRAC softball player and pitcher of the week
WACO, Texas – Jillian Howell of LSU Alexandria (La.) earned the RRAC Softball Player of the Week award for April 7-13, while Ava Hernandez of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) captured the RRAC Pitcher of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the 11th set of weekly winners for the 2025 RRAC softball season.
Howell homered twice and drove in seven runs in a 4-2 week for the Generals. The junior infielder from Amarillo, Texas, helped LSUA earn a split with OLLU by collecting four RBIs in a 10-4 vcitory in the second game of their doubleheader. Howell also contributed a double, home run and three RBIs in a 9-7 loss to Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She is hitting .337 for the season with 25 RBIs. The sixth-ranked Generals slipped to second place in the conference standings at 18-2 with an overall record of 35-5.
Hernandez collected three wins and a save in a 5-1 week for the 10th-ranked Saints. The sophomore righthander from Alice, Texas, held NAIA No. 6 LSU Alexandria (La.) to two hits in a complete game shutout as OLLU won, 2-0. Hernandez also limited the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) to two hits over four innings in a start and threw a three-hitter against the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas). She finished the week with 22.1 innings pitched with 11 hits, five earned runs, 24 strikeouts and three walks. The Saints moved into first place in the RRAC at 25-1 with a 35-7 mark on the season.
