Xavier's Roper, Bella named RRAC women's soccer players of the week following opening win

WACO, Texas – Samira Roper of Xavier University (La.) earned recognition as the RRAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 25-31, while Xavier's Luisa Bella was selected as the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates.

RRAC Offensive Player of the Week – Samira Roper, Xavier
 Roper scored both goals in the Gold Nuggets' season opening victory against the University of Mobile (Ala.). The senior forward from Heredia, Costa Rica, picked up where she left off last season when she tied for 18th in the NAIA with 19 goals and was 25th with 44 points. Roper was first in goals scored and second in points in the RRAC last year.

RRAC Defensive Player of the Week – Luisa Bella, Xavier
 Bella stopped Mobile to earn the shutout in Xavier's 2-0 victory. The junior goalkeeper from Bad Muenstereifel, Germany, corralled three saves to earn the win.

TAMUT's Desiree Narvaez scored in the final moments of the Eagles' match with Nelson University (Texas) to clinch a 1-1 tie.

This week in the RRAC

Jarvis Christian, Our Lady of the Lake and Texas A&M-Texarkana host former RRAC foes this week as they face Wiley, Paul Quinn and Huston-Tillotson. Xavier will hit the road to face Georgia Gwinnett, and Southwest hosts NCAA Division II UT-Permian Basin.
