LSUS' Sanchez repeats as RRAC Baseball Player of the Week, TAMUV's Zeplin soars to second Pitcher of the Week honor

WACO, Texas (March 2, 2026) – The RRAC recognizes LSU Shreveport's Carlos Sanchez as Baseball Player of the Week and Texas A&M-Victoria's Blane Zeplin as Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the dates Feb. 23-March 2. This is the sixth set of weekly winners for the 2026 RRAC baseball season.


RRAC Baseball Player of the Week – Carlos Sanchez – (1) LSU Shreveport

LSUS junior Carlos Sanchez delivered a dominant all-around performance at the plate and in the field, leading the Pilots to a perfect 4-0 week and a conference sweep of LSU Alexandria. Over four games, Sanchez hit a blistering .500 (9-for-18) with eight runs scored, 10 RBIs, three home runs, two triples, and a double. He posted a .500 on-base percentage and an eye-popping 1.278 slugging percentage, totaling 23 bases on the week while striking out zero times in 20 plate appearances. Sanchez opened the week with a statement performance in an 11-1 win over Central Baptist (Ark.), going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a home run, four RBIs, three runs scored, and two stolen bases. He tallied nine total bases in the contest and reached base four times, setting the tone for the week. In conference play at LSUA, Sanchez continued his hot streak. He recorded multiple hits in two of the three games, including a 3-for-4 effort with a home run and two runs scored in a 6-1 victory. He capped the series with a 2-for-5 performance in a 14-3 win, launching another home run and driving in four runs. Across the three-game conference set, he hit .429 (6-for-14) with two home runs, a triple, six RBIs, and five runs scored. Six of his nine hits on the week went for extra bases, showcasing his power and gap-to-gap ability. In addition to his offensive production, Sanchez was flawless defensively, recording six putouts without an error for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Sanchez leads the NAIA with 37 RBIs, 35 hits, and 71 total bases. He is also his team's leader with seven doubles, seven triples, a .899 slugging percentage, and 17 stolen bases. This is his fourth Player of the Week award.

LSUS is ranked first in the NAIA Baseball Coaches' Top 25 Poll. The Pilots are 18-2 overall and 6-0 in the RRAC.

RRAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week – Blake Zeplin – (20) Texas A&M-Victoria

TAMUV's senior right-handed pitcher Blake Zeplin got back to his dominant form on Friday, striking out 10 batters over five innings while giving up one run on six hits and a walk in an 11-1 run-rule win over LCU. The 10 punchouts matched his season high. Zeplin has pitched 29.0 innings and has struck out 34 (fourth in the RRAC). He has an ERA of 2.79 and is tied for second with four wins. This is Zeplin's second pitcher of the week award.

TAMUV is ranked No. 20 in the NAIA Baseball Coaches Top 25 Poll. The Jaguars are third in the RRAC with a 13-8 overall record and a 4-2 conference record.

RRAC Notebook:

  • LCU junior outfielder Matthew Cody was 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs as LCU won game one of the series at #20 TAMUV. He scored twice in Saturday's rubber game.
  • (20) TAMUV junior utility Ty Boozer continued his red-hot freshman season, going 4-for-9 with five RBIs across three games to help TAMUV pick up its first-ever series win over LCU. He opened game two of the series on Friday with his first-career home run to spark the Jaguars' offense in an 11-1 run-rule win.
  • TAMUT RS-junior Brandon Sheets recorded a .500 avg, with five hits, two home runs, and eight runs. Defensively, he tallied 18 putouts.
  • OLLU senior utility Jack Kalisky led his team to a 3-1 series win over Southwest (N.M.). He went 9-for-13, adding four runs, three doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBIs. He added 28-of-29 putouts and one assist.
  • LCU graduate right-handed pitcher Kade Linn struck out 10 batters. In his second outing this season, he got at least 10 punch outs and got the win on the mound as LCU took game one of the series at TAMUV.
  • TAMUT senior right-handed pitcher Tanner Duncan earned the 15-2 win over Jarvis Christian (JCU). He pitched six innings, allowing six hits, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
  • LSUS senior right-handed pitcher David Hankins delivered a dominant performance on the mound to lead LSU Shreveport to a 13-3 conference victory over LSUA. He tossed 5.0 innings while allowing just two hits and no earned runs. He did not issue a single walk and struck out four. The right-hander finished the week with a 1-0 record, a 0.00 ERA, and an impressive 0.40 WHIP.
  • OLLU senior right-handed pitcher Donovan Gamez secured the 16-0 win over USW. He pitched a complete seven-inning, run-rule game, allowing seven hits, while striking out nine.
