RRAC's LSU Shreveport moves to second round of NAIA Men's Basketball Tournament after win over Tougaloo
SHREVEPORT, La. (March 13, 2026) – No. 2 LSU Shreveport triumphed over No. 15 Tougaloo College (Miss.) 94-88 in the NAIA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. Tougaloo ends its season with a 19-10 record, while the Pilots improve to 25-3. LSUS will play No. 10 Texas Wesleyan in the Shreveport Bracket Championship game (second round) on March 14 at 5 p.m. The champion will advance to the 88th Annual Men's Basketball National Championship, March 19-24, in Kansas City, Mo.
The Pilots dominated the first half against the Bulldogs. Alexzaye Johnson led the team on offense with 14 points. The team reached double digits at the 16:25 mark, leading 12-4. A three-pointer from Johnson moved the Pilots to 19-9, while Tougaloo's Antonio Patterson sank a jumper to get the team to 10. Khi Wallace made a jumper for LSUS, giving the team the 48-37 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs fought hard to get to within four. After a missed three-pointer from Johnson, Willie Anderson made a layup to trail by one at 52-51. The teams tied at 54, and Tougaloo took its first lead of the game at the 13:45 mark, 56-54. The Bulldogs maintained their momentum, leading 61-54, but the Pilots came back to regain the lead at 72-71. Four straight misses hurt the Bulldogs through the last minutes of the game. LSUS' Thaddeus Johnson made a layup to seal the 94-88 victory.
Individual leaders
LSUS was led by Alexzaye Johnson, who posted 23 points and seven assists. Khi Wallas contributed 16 points and eight rebounds. Emareyon McDonnald had 15 points, while Hayden Brittingham scored 14. Nico Jones came off the bench to add 13 points.
Reserve player Antonio Patterson had a superb game, scoring 40 points, grabbing 11 rebounds, and recording four assists, steals, and blocks. Both Tyler Hudson and Willie Anderson added 16 points off the bench.
Team totals
Tougaloo tallied 50 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from the three-point range, and 66.7 percent from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs added 40 rebounds, 20 assists, seven steals, and four blocks.
The Pilots produced 53.2 percent from the field, 47.4 percent from three-point range, 65.5 percent from the free-throw line, and they added 30 rebounds, 17 assists, and six blocks and steals.
