USW's Rodriguez garners RRAC Softball Player of the Week, TAMUV's Butler named Pitcher of the Week

WACO, Texas (March 23, 2026) – Southwest's (N.M.) Yesenia Rodriguez has been selected as the RRAC Softball Player of the Week, and Texas A&M-Victoria's Madelyn Butler as the Pitcher of the Week for the dates of March 16-22. This is the eighth set of weekly awards. 

RRAC Softball Player of the Week – Yesenia Rodriguez – Southwest (N.M.) 

Junior second baseman Yesenia Rodriguez went 13-for-17 in two nonconference games against Permian Basin (Texas) and three conference games against Texas College. She went 3-for-3 against Permian Basin with a run, an RBI, and a stolen base. She added 1-of-2 putouts and one assist. 

In USW's conference series against Texas College, the Mustangs won 16-7 and 12-5, and lost 13-12. Rodriguez went 10-for 14, adding five runs, two doubles, seven RBIs, and one stolen base. On defense, she tallied six putouts and six assists. 

Rodriguez leads her team with 16 hits, a .444 batting average, and a .500 on-base percentage, and is third with nine RBIs. 

USW stats line includes 136 hits, 76 RBIs, .253 batting average, 14 sacrifice hits, 22 doubles, three home runs, and 18 stolen bases. 

The Mustangs are 4-18 overall and 2-10 in the RRAC.

RRAC Softball Pitcher of the Week – Madelyn Butler – Texas A&M-Victoria 

Freshman right-handed pitcher Madelyn Butler earned each of her first two career wins last week. The Leander, Texas native started game two of the series with XULA, and she retired 17 of the first 20 batters she faced in a complete-game effort, striking out a career-high three batters. She added 1.2 innings of relief to win game three to complete a sweep for the Jaguars. 

For the season, Butler has a 3.94 ERA with a 2-2 record in 10 appearances. She has pitched in 26.2 innings and has six strikeouts. 

TAMUV has tallied 163.1 innings, 101 strikeouts, 1.58 WHIP, and 3.56 ERA. 

The Jaguars are 17-10 overall and 8-4 in the RRAC. They are fourth in the conference.

RRAC Notebook:

  • TAMUT senior outfielder Grace Cantu had a strong week overall at the plate, batting a .467 avg over five games, where she had 15 at-bats. She recorded seven hits, five runs, six RBIs, and had one home run, which was in the Eagles' victory over No. 20 LSUA in their conference series opener.
  • LSUA senior outfielder Kaetlyn Dunbar went 4-for-11 in her team's 2-1 series win against TAMUT. She added five runs, a double, a home run, and six RBIs.
  • XULA freshman third baseman Lexi McLin had strong showings in all three of XULA's games this week. In a conference series against TAMUV, McLin went a combined 6-for-10 (.600 batting average) with two home runs, seven RBIs, and four runs scored. In game one, McLin went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, and a steal. In game two, she went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer. Game three was McLin's strongest; she went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored.
  • OLLU junior infielder Lilly Rocha went 6-for-7 in her team's split against Science and Arts (Okla.). She added three RBIs.
  • LCU sophomore first baseman Myah Talbert had at least one hit in four of LCU's five games during the week. She hit two home runs, knocked in five runs, and scored twice during the midweek doubleheader against NCAA D-I Southern. She also had a ringing double which was inches away from being a home run during Saturday's game against TAMUSA.
  • TAMUV freshman catcher Cristela Trevino continued her torrid hitting at home, slashing .636/.636/.727 across a three-game sweep of XULA with six RBIs. Prior to the weekend, Trevino was hitting .556 at home.
