OLLU advances in the NAIA Softball World Series after victory over Marian

COLUMBUS, Ga. (May 22, 2026) - Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) survived elimination with a convincing 10-2 victory over Marian (Ind.). The Saints came through with timely hits, while pitchers displayed their power at the 45th Annual NAIA Softball National Championship World Series in six innings.
 
Marian ends its season with a 38-18 record, while OLLU improves to 44-12.
 
Marian took an early lead in the second inning when Lily Wendt scored after a hit by pitch to Ella Piercy. Then, Abby Hoffman hit into the infield, bringing Mallorie Beutel home.
 
However, the Saints tied the game in the bottom of the second after a groundout by Novalee Gloria, scoring Tania Rodriguez. Yezenia Perez followed with a hit to shortstop, allowing Marisa Rosales to score.
 
Rosales came back to bat and homered in the third inning with two on base. Rodriguez and Lilly Rocha scored to give the Saints a 5-2 lead.
 
From that point, the Saints allowed just one hit from Marian through the fifth inning. To close out the fifth, a double from Gloria scored Rosales, Rodriguez, and Caitlin Casas. Although the Knights managed one more hit at the top of the sixth, they ended the inning leaving two on base. With the Saints leading 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Lilly Rocha hit to left to score Ayanna Trejo. Finally, Rosales walked it off with a single to centerfield that sent Danika Jimenez home for the 10-2 run-rule win after six.
 
OLLU's starting pitcher, Valeria Vielma, allowed the only two runs of the game after 2.1 innings pitched. Annika Littero (27-9) came in to pitch 3.2 innings in relief to earn the win.
 
Rocha and Rosales displayed their dominance as Rocha went 3-for-4, adding a run and an RBI, and Rosales went 3-for-3, adding three runs and four RBIs. Garcia tallied a double and four RBIs.
 
Hoffman, Abby Madre, Wendt, Mystic Means, and Alex Kiemeyer had one hit each for the Knights. Hoffman and Piercy had one RBI.
Tournament Details
 
The second round of severe weather forced the suspension of the game between Cumberlands (Ky.) and British Columbia, as well as the remaining two Friday evening games. The updated schedule for tomorrow will be as follows
 
OLLU will now play the 10th game of the World Series at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The opponent has not been determined yet. The Saints are scheduled to play the loser of the eighth game between Southeastern (Fla.) and the College of Idaho, which is scheduled for Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
