Xavier wins heavyweight bout to gain RRAC women's tennis championship
NEW ORLEANS -- In a national tournament level matchup, No. 4 Xavier defeated No. 3 LSU Alexandria to claim the 2023 RRAC Women's Tennis Championship title. The Gold Nuggets won their first conference championship in a 4-2 win that featured four singles battles that went to three sets at the XULA Tennis Center. Xavier locked down an automatic berth in the NAIA national tournament, and LSUA is likely to receive an at-large berth.

Xavier won the doubles point by taking 2-of-3 matches then captured three-set victories at #2, #5 and #6 singles. Mbali Langa and McKenna Wheatley picked up two of the wins, and Valentina Lagarcha went to a third-set tie-breaker before winning, 7-4. Xavier's Valaine Clarke was also locked in a three-set battle with a 4-3 lead before the match was left unfinished.
Wheatley was named tournament MVP with a record of 2-0 in both singles and doubles at the event. She was joined by Langa, Largacha and Clarke on the all-tournament team, while LSUA's Candela Bonivardi and Olivia Scattini were all-tournament selections.
